Figurative Language Video

Podcasts

Kiddos and grad friends alike, you know we don't have cable at my house. One way to still view some of the shows I like is through Podcasts. I think it could be a great tool for the classroom as well. I found a cast called "Vanity Fair's Writers Reading." They have the authors reading excerpts from their own novels. I actually got to hear what Augusten Boroughs sounds like; I loved his novel "Running with Scissors." I was shown iTunesU a few weeks ago. There were some good mini-lessons I could possibly use as supplimental material for my advanced kids, or even just refreshers for myself when I'm about to teach.
Another one I subscribed to is "Fit Girl." I have been working on getting healthier for me, but also to be a better role model for my two daughters and all the young ladies I teach. There are great work-out and eating tips I can pass along.
As I said, we don't have cable at home. I found a way to hook up to some scenes from TLC and HBO ("United States of Tara"). I also subscribed to the Onion on-line broadcast, hilarious. I'm already a fan on Facebook.
Overall, this is one I'm glad we were required to check out. I'll take this one with me professionally and personally.

grad. class post

Hello Ms. Feldman and class,
My name is Shelby Olson. I have been teaching for 10 years now. The first eight were for the Omaha Public Schools. I have been employed with Fremont Public for the past two years. I teach 7th grade English and love it. I am a graduate of Fremont, UNL in 2001, and now a proud Bobcat.
I tend to gravitate towards PCs, it's simply a personal preference. I have not been overexposed to Macs. Our summer course helped acclamate me to many of the features that technology can do to enhance my classroom. I have used this blog over this year, I regurlarly include Power Points, interactive and linear, and I've begun introducting Photo Story to my students to utilize for quarterly book studies.
I decided to complete my masters here at Peru for a couple of reasons. I appreciate the convenience of the on-line courses. I'm challenged, but all the goals are attainable. I was also open to Peru as my brother earned his undergraduate through this institution.

Touching Spirit Bear

Follow the directions on the worksheet in front of you. Please answer the questions on both the Touching Spirit Bear Hunt and the ones on the worksheet using Mrs. Woods links. The completed "research" will be due no later than Monday at the start of class. I suggest completion of it before the weekend. Happy hunting.

Extra Credit

If you are so inclined, you can earn extra credit. I will not mention this in the classroom. If you bring me comic strips from the newspaper that include figurative language and are able to identify it to me, I will give you extra credit. One point for each comic. No more than 10 by the end of the quarter.
